J. Philip Bender began his Northwestern Mutual career
as
Financial
Representative
in
1990.
He
achieved numerous sales awards and developed a sizable
client base in St. Louis, Missouri. He moved into
management
when he became a Field Director, and was appointed a Managing
Director in 1997.
From 1997 to 2000, he developed a scratch district office
that
became
one
of
the
fastest
growing
in
the system. Based upon that success, he was appointed
Managing
Partner
in 2002 for the Network Office in Westport,
Connecticut.
He is responsible for the sales and service
operations
of five District Offices in Fairfield County, Connecticut,
and
Westchester
County, New York.
Since his appointment, Phil Bender and his team have experienced double digit growth annually in these three businesses:
- Core life insurance, disability income, long-term care and annuities;
- Investment business, retail investments and company retirement plans; and
- Employee Benefit Plans through Strategic Employee Benefit Services.
Phil graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1987. He serves on numerous company committees, and is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, which recognizes the top four percent of insurance and financial services sales force in the world.
Phil enjoys a philanthropic presence in the community.
In
addition to his involvement as a member of the board of
directors of Special Olympics Connecticut, he also serves
on
the The National Foundation of Alpha Tau Omega.
On a personal note, Phil and his wife, Lisa, have three sons: Jack, 14, Griffin, 11, and Ian, 8. In his off hours, he enjoys coaching his sons, playing softball, golf, singing and traveling.
